A bench does three jobs a chair cannot. It seats two or three without deciding in advance how many. It slides fully under a table when nobody is using it, which a chair does not. And in a hallway it is the only piece of furniture people will actually sit on to put shoes on.

This seat is solid recycled polymer. The colour and pattern run through the full thickness, so there is no laminate to lift at the edge and no veneer to chip — which matters on a surface that gets sat on, stood on and dragged across a floor. It does not absorb water, does not swell and does not need sealing or oiling.

The pattern is a consequence of how the material is made rather than a print applied to it. Fragments of different colours are mixed and pressed, so the distribution is different on every seat — the one you receive will not be identical to the one photographed.

Four powder-coated steel legs, splayed. They screw directly into the seat with no tools and no fixings to lose: it goes together in a couple of minutes and comes apart the same way, which is what makes a 120 cm bench worth moving between rooms.

At 44 cm it sits at standard seat height against a 73 cm table, and at 40 cm deep it takes a shoe rack or a row of bags underneath.

Recycled polymer

The top is solid recycled polymer — no core, no laminate, no veneer. The colour and pattern run through the full thickness, so a chip or a scratch shows the same material underneath rather than a different layer beneath a surface.

It does not absorb water, it does not swell, and it does not need sealing, oiling or polishing. In practice it behaves better than timber in a kitchen, a bathroom or a hospitality space, where spills sit on surfaces rather than being wiped immediately.

No two are the same

The pattern comes from the recycling process rather than from a print. Colour distribution, particle size and density vary from piece to piece, and the top you receive will not match the photograph exactly.

That is the material working as intended, not a fault. If you are ordering more than one piece for the same room, order them together and tell us — they will be made from the same batch, which is as close to matching as this material gets.

What it does not tolerate

Heat and abrasives. Polymer softens well below the temperature timber and stone tolerate, so hot pans and appliances go on a trivet. Abrasive cleaners leave a matt patch that does not blend back.

Suitability

Indoor use as standard.
Care & cleaning
Routine cleaning

Wipe with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild detergent, then dry. The surface is closed and non-porous — nothing soaks in, and it needs no sealing or polishing.

Do not use

Abrasive pads, scouring powders and cutting compounds. These leave a matt patch that will not blend back. Avoid strong solvents — acetone, thinners and aggressive degreasers can soften or cloud the surface.

Heat

Hot pans, hot appliances and open flame go on a trivet, not on the surface. Heat damage to polymer is a permanent deformation rather than a mark, and it cannot be sanded out.

Scratches

Light scratches can be worked out with fine abrasive paper followed by a plastic polish, worked across the full face rather than the mark alone. Deep gouges cannot be filled invisibly — there is no separate surface layer to repair into.

Sunlight

Prolonged direct sunlight will fade some colours over years. If the piece sits in a window, expect the exposed face to shift slightly against the rest.

FAQ
  1. How many people does it seat?
Two adults comfortably at 120 cm, three at a squeeze or three children. Against a 60 cm table it seats two facing each other on separate benches.
  2. Does it fit under a table?
At 44 cm high it goes under any table with a 73 cm top and no apron in the way. Fully underneath, which is the reason to choose a bench over chairs in a small kitchen.
  3. What tools do I need?
None. The four legs screw directly into the seat. It assembles in a couple of minutes and comes apart the same way.
  4. Will it look like the photograph?
Not exactly. The pattern comes from mixing fragments of recycled polymer, so distribution and tone vary from seat to seat. The photograph shows the colourway, not the specific piece you will receive.
  5. Can I stand on it?
It is designed as seating, not as a step. Standing puts the whole load on one small area rather than spreading it, and polymer behaves differently from timber under a point load.
  6. Will it mark or stain?
The surface is closed and non-porous, so spills wipe off rather than soaking in. It is not scratch-proof — a dragged buckle or a heel will leave a mark, in the same way it would on any solid surface.
  7. How do I clean it?
A damp cloth and a mild detergent. No abrasive pads, no scouring powder and no strong solvents — those leave a matt patch that does not blend back.
  8. Is the seat the same all the way through?
Yes. It is solid polymer, not a facing over a core, so a chip shows the same material underneath.
  9. Does the thickness vary?
By up to 1.5 mm across the seat. That is inherent to how the material is pressed and it is not a fault. It is not visible in use.
  10. Can I use it outdoors?
    Yes
  11. Can I get it in another size or colour?
No. This bench is supplied in the sizes and colours listed. If you need a specific dimension, our aluminium range is made to order.
